TRUMMETER® Belt Tension Meter

‌
Part No.: RBTX-HUK-0001
Correct belt tension decides both how long a belt lasts, and how long the bearings and pulleys behind it last. The TRUMMETER® belt tension meter replaces guesswork with a number. Switch the meter on, aim the probe at the free span, and pluck the belt. The sensor reads the resulting vibration optically without ever touching the belt. Enter the free span length and the belt mass, and the meter converts that frequency into tension, shown in hertz or newtons. Every reading logs cleanly for DIN EN ISO 9001 ff. documentation at commissioning or routine inspection.

Where sonic belt tension meters are used

Printing runs on registration, and registration runs on belt tension. Web presses drive dozens of rollers through belts that have to hold a fixed ratio across a moving substrate. Drift on any one of them shows up as a visible defect in the finished sheet, usually long before anyone hears a belt complaining.

Automotive plants measure across conveyor and assembly drives, where an unplanned stop costs more in an hour than the meter costs outright. Automation builders check belt-driven linear actuators and gantries, where the belt sets positioning accuracy directly. A pick-and-place cell that loses tension loses repeatability well before it loses the belt.

Agricultural machines compress a year of work into a few weeks. A single combine drives the threshing cylinder, cleaning fan, unloading auger, and header through belts. All of them run in dust and chaff. A belt that slips mid-harvest costs harvest days that cannot be made up, something a reading during pre-season commissioning can help avoid entirely.

The same tool covers HVAC fan and pump drives, packaging machinery, textile lines, and anything else running under tension.

What comes in the case

Belt spans are rarely easy to reach, so every TRUMMETER ships with two probes rather than one. A plug-in probe mounts directly to the meter for open spans. A cabled probe goes where the meter cannot follow — inside guarded drives and tight pulley housings. Between them, no belt span is out of reach. Both travel in an impact-resistant ABS case with a 9 V battery included. A rechargeable battery and charger are available as an option.

Belt tension meter FAQs

How does a belt tension meter work?

A belt tension meter does not read force inside the belt directly. It measures the vibration frequency of the free span, then calculates tension from that frequency, the span length, and the belt’s mass per unit length. Higher tension raises the frequency, the same way tightening a guitar string raises its pitch.

What is the most accurate way to measure belt tension?

Frequency measurement, by a clear margin. Judging tension by hand depends entirely on operator feel. A force-deflection gauge still depends on finding the true center of the span and pressing square to it. A sonic belt tension meter removes both variables, which is why it is the method specified wherever tension has to sit inside a narrow range.

Can a belt tension meter measure anything other than belts?

Yes. The reading depends on vibration rather than on anything specific to a belt. That makes the TRUMMETER usable on any tensioned material — wire rope, steel cable, netting, guy lines, and spring elements included. One tool covers several maintenance jobs that would otherwise need separate instruments.

What do I need to know before taking a reading?

Two figures, both from the belt manufacturer’s data: the free span length between pulley centers, and the belt mass per unit length. The TRUMMETER accepts spans up to 9.99 m (32.8 ft) and belt masses up to 9.999 kg/m2, which covers industrial drives comfortably. Enter those once and the meter reports tension directly, rather than leaving a frequency to convert by hand.
