As part of a customer test in the Customer Testing Area of igus in Cologne, a test setup was realized for a customer. The aim of the test was to evaluate the pick-and-place process for the food industry. Specifically, the aim was to pick and place mushrooms from the conveyor belt. The following components were used:

  • igus Delta Robot: This robot is specially designed for fast pick-and-place tasks. It can be operated with 2 or 3 axes and offers the flexibility to select the appropriate kinematics depending on the size of the workspace. With an impressive pick rate of 100/60 picks per minute, it is ideal for applications such as picking objects from a conveyor belt or sorting tasks. The control hardware is plug-and-play and comes with free software.

  • ifm 2D camera: This camera records the position of the mushrooms on the conveyor belt. The determined object coordinates are transmitted to the robot controller in order to carry out precise gripping and placement movements.

The test setup made it possible to test the efficiency and accuracy of the pick-and-place process. The combination of the igus Delta Robot and the ifm 2D camera offers a reliable solution for automated tasks in the food industry.
